Help us build a new kind of housing on Galiano.

We are creating secure, long-term, market-price rental housing on Galiano, managed and maintained by the islanders living in it.

Our approach involves incrementally building or leasing housing as opportunities and funding arise, taking advantage of existing zoning and in particular making use of unused cottage rights.

If you’re looking for housing right now: apply to be a co-op member.

If you’d like to be on a waiting list for future housing, or own land or housing on Galiano you might be willing to lease to us, get in touch.

We are working on three types of housing units:

New units on co-op land

The co-op has acquired an empty lot at 340 Robson Way, behind the school. We are currently building 3 new 2-bedroom cottages there. In later years, we have the right to build 3 additional full-sized houses on the same lot.

New units on leased land

We are negotiating agreements with various Galiano landowners to lease a portion of their land for up to 25 years. Starting in 2025, we will build 2-bedroom cottages on these lots at the co-op’s expense. The units will remain part of the co-op just long enough to re-coup the co-op’s construction costs, after which they will revert to the landowner.

Leased pre-existing cottages

We are willing to pre-pay for multi-year leases on existing cottages in good condition in order to bring them into the co-op. The co-op will take on all aspects of managing them as a long-term rental unit.
